Cet événement, dont l’entrée était fixée à \u003cb\u003e100 francs belges\u003c\/b\u003e, a réuni une \u003cb\u003esélection exceptionnelle d’appareils militaires et civils\u003c\/b\u003e, anciens et modernes, offrant au public un panorama unique de l’histoire et de l’innovation aéronautique. La brochure, réalisée par \u003cb\u003eELEM Liège\u003c\/b\u003e, met en avant la diversité des participants et l’importance historique de la base, qui célébrait alors \u003cb\u003e31 ans d’activité au sein de l’OTAN\u003c\/b\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eLa \u003cb\u003ebase de Bierset\u003c\/b\u003e, dont les origines remontent à \u003cb\u003e1921\u003c\/b\u003e, a joué un rôle clé dans l’aviation belge et internationale. Dès \u003cb\u003e1922\u003c\/b\u003e, elle accueille le \u003cb\u003e3e Groupe de Bombardement\u003c\/b\u003e équipé de \u003cb\u003eDe Havilland DH4 et DH9\u003c\/b\u003e, puis de \u003cb\u003eBreguet 19\u003c\/b\u003e. En \u003cb\u003e1934\u003c\/b\u003e, les \u003cb\u003e9e et 11e escadrilles\u003c\/b\u003e y sont stationnées avec des \u003cb\u003eRenard 31\u003c\/b\u003e et participent à la campagne des \u003cb\u003eDix-Huit Jours\u003c\/b\u003e en 1940. Occupée par la \u003cb\u003eLuftwaffe\u003c\/b\u003e pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale avec des \u003cb\u003eJunker 52, 88 et Stuka 87\u003c\/b\u003e, la base est libérée en \u003cb\u003eoctobre 1944\u003c\/b\u003e et sert de \u003cb\u003erelais logistique\u003c\/b\u003e pour les \u003cb\u003eDC-3\u003c\/b\u003e américains lors de la bataille des Ardennes. En \u003cb\u003e1953\u003c\/b\u003e, une \u003cb\u003enouvelle base\u003c\/b\u003e est construite pour le \u003cb\u003e9e Wing\u003c\/b\u003e, équipé de \u003cb\u003eF-84G Thunderjet\u003c\/b\u003e, puis de \u003cb\u003eMeteor\u003c\/b\u003e et \u003cb\u003eHunter\u003c\/b\u003e en \u003cb\u003e1956\u003c\/b\u003e. Après une phase dédiée aux \u003cb\u003emissiles Nike\u003c\/b\u003e, la base devient en \u003cb\u003e1968\u003c\/b\u003e le \u003cb\u003e3e Wing Tactique\u003c\/b\u003e, équipé de \u003cb\u003eRF-84F Thunderflash\u003c\/b\u003e et \u003cb\u003eF-84F Thunderstreak\u003c\/b\u003e, avant d’accueillir les premiers \u003cb\u003eMirage\u003c\/b\u003e en \u003cb\u003e1971\u003c\/b\u003e. Le \u003cb\u003eNorthrop F-5E Tiger II\u003c\/b\u003e, chasseur polyvalent, se distingue par sa \u003cb\u003evitesse de Mach 1,64\u003c\/b\u003e et sa maniabilité, tandis que le \u003cb\u003eDassault Mirage 5\u003c\/b\u003e, avec son \u003cb\u003eréacteur ATAR 09G5\u003c\/b\u003e (6 000 kgp), représente la \u003cb\u003efierté de l’industrie aéronautique française\u003c\/b\u003e, capable d’atteindre \u003cb\u003e2 112 km\/h\u003c\/b\u003e. L’\u003cb\u003eAWACS Boeing 707-320 E3A\u003c\/b\u003e, équipé d’un \u003cb\u003eradar Doppler\u003c\/b\u003e, illustre l’importance de la \u003cb\u003esurveillance aérienne\u003c\/b\u003e dans la stratégie de l’OTAN, avec une capacité à couvrir \u003cb\u003e4 millions de km³\u003c\/b\u003e et à détecter des cibles au sol.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eLes \u003cb\u003eappareils historiques\u003c\/b\u003e offrent un voyage dans le temps, avec des légendes de l’aviation militaire. This event, with an admission price of 100 Belgian francs, brought together an exceptional selection of military and civil aircraft, both vintage and modern, offering the public a unique insight into the history and innovation of aviation. The brochure, produced by ELEM Liège, highlights the diversity of the participants and the historical significance of the base, which was then celebrating 31 years of service within NATO.\u003cbr\u003eBierset Air Base, whose origins date back to 1921, has played a key role in Belgian and international aviation. From 1922 onwards, it hosted the 3rd Bombing Group, equipped with De Havilland DH4 and DH9 aircraft, and later with Breguet 19s. In 1934, the 9th and 11th squadrons were stationed there with Renard 31s and took part in the Eighteen-Day Campaign in 1940. Occupied by the Luftwaffe during the Second World War with Junker 52s, 88s and Stuka 87s, the base was liberated in October 1944 and served as a logistical hub for American DC-3s during the Battle of the Bulge. In 1953, a new base was built for the 9th Wing, equipped with F-84G Thunderjets, followed by Meteors and Hunters in 1956. Following a period dedicated to Nike missiles, the base became the 3rd Tactical Wing in 1968, equipped with RF-84F Thunderflash and F-84F Thunderstreak aircraft, before welcoming the first Mirage aircraft in 1971. Today, with a 3,355-metre runway and a workforce of 1,300, Bierset is one of the leading organisations in the Liège region, sharing its facilities with Liège Civil Airport.\u003cbr\u003eAmong the flagship aircraft on display at the Air-Tattoo, modern fighter jets take pride of place. The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon, with its Pratt \u0026amp; Whitney F100-PW-200 engine (10,805 kgp with afterburner), epitomises the technological excellence of the 1980s, capable of reaching Mach 2.1 and a service ceiling of over 20,000 metres. The Northrop F-5E Tiger II, a multi-role fighter, stands out for its speed of Mach 1.64 and its manoeuvrability, whilst the Dassault Mirage 5, with its ATAR 09G5 engine (6,000 kgp), is the pride of the French aerospace industry, capable of reaching 2,112 km\/h. The Boeing 707-320 E3A AWACS, fitted with a Doppler radar, illustrates the importance of aerial surveillance in NATO’s strategy, with the capacity to cover 4 million km³ and detect ground targets.\u003cbr\u003eThese historic aircraft offer a journey back in time, featuring legends of military aviation. The North American P-51D Mustang, regarded as the finest propeller-driven fighter aircraft of the Second World War, impresses with its speed of 703 km\/h and its Packard V-1650-7 engine (1,590 ch). The Supermarine Spitfire Mk XIV, fitted with a Griffon 65 engine (2,050 ch), reaches 724 km\/h and symbolises British resistance during the war. The Chance Vought F4U-7 Corsair, used by the French Naval Aviation in Indochina, and the Grumman F8F Bearcat, the US Navy’s last piston-engined carrier-based fighter, serve as a reminder of American involvement in the conflicts of the 20th century. The Hawker Hunter, with its Rolls-Royce Avon jet engine, was a global success, flown by the Black Arrows and Blue Diamonds aerobatic teams. Finally, the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, an iconic heavy bomber, is celebrated for its robustness and its ability to survive perilous missions.\u003cbr\u003eTraining and aerobatic aircraft round off this eclectic collection. The British Aerospace Hawk, flown by the Red Arrows display team, is a twin-seat, single-engine jet (1,038 km\/h) designed for advanced training. The Alouette III, a multi-purpose helicopter, enjoyed international success with over 1,382 units sold in 92 countries. The Mudry Cap 10, a two-seater aerobatic aircraft, and the North American T-6 Harvard, used to train 15,495 Allied pilots, highlight the importance of aviation training.
