USAFE and other USAF commands
through the 49 issues of the "Moniteur de l'Aéronautique
The first issue of "Le Moniteur de l'Aéronautique" magazine hit the newsstands in October 1977. In November 1981, the last issue ended 49 issues rich in aviation news and history.
The third volume of the trilogy devoted to the American Air Force over the 49 issues of Le Moniteur de l'Aéronautique, this compilation begins by devoting a large part to the command of the American Air Force in Europe. This is because, at the end of the 1970s, in the midst of the Cold War, this command had the formidable mission of stopping the hordes of Soviet armoured vehicles pouring into Germany and giving American reinforcements time to reach Europe. The reconnaissance (RF-4G), electronic threat suppression (F-4G), air dominance (F-15), and armour neutralisation (A-10) components are reviewed in turn. Also of note are some interesting pieces of information on the air defence of the North American continent with the F-106, as well as on the American military air transport component.
Fragmentary, quasi-impressionistic, this compilation does not pretend to treat the subject in an exhaustive manner. It simply has the value of a snapshot that fixes a certain vision.
The way things were seen more than forty years ago.
