Designed for transatlantic flights, its development was funded by a hotel owner who lent him \u003cb\u003e50,000 francs\u003c\/b\u003e. He also obtained three \u003cb\u003e180 hp engines\u003c\/b\u003e for free from \u003cb\u003eJacques Lacoste\u003c\/b\u003e, the delegate administrator of \u003cb\u003eHispano-Suiza\u003c\/b\u003e. Engineer \u003cb\u003eGeorges Le Moy\u003c\/b\u003e was one of its main designers. From \u003cb\u003eMarch 4 to April 5, 1932\u003c\/b\u003e, it completed the first \u003cb\u003eFrance–New Caledonia air link\u003c\/b\u003e: \u003cb\u003e24,000 km in 134 hours and 45 minutes of flight time\u003c\/b\u003e, with stopovers in \u003cb\u003eIstres, Tripoli (Libya), Cairo, Basra, Gwadar, Karachi, and Allahabad\u003c\/b\u003e. The arrival in \u003cb\u003eTontouta (Nouméa)\u003c\/b\u003e was met by a crowd of \u003cb\u003e10,000 people\u003c\/b\u003e. The aircraft was slightly damaged upon landing, but the crew was unharmed. It was later disassembled and shipped back to France. The \u003cb\u003eBiarritz No. 2\u003c\/b\u003e was repaired and fitted with more powerful engines, completing a series of flights in \u003cb\u003eEurope and Africa\u003c\/b\u003e, including a \u003cb\u003eParis–Moscow\u003c\/b\u003e flight with \u003cb\u003ePierre Cot\u003c\/b\u003e, the \u003cb\u003eMinister of Air\u003c\/b\u003e, and several flights to \u003cb\u003eAfrica\u003c\/b\u003e, one of which reached the \u003cb\u003eCape Verde Islands\u003c\/b\u003e. The return trip took place from \u003cb\u003eMay 15 to 21\u003c\/b\u003e, with a triumphant arrival at \u003cb\u003eLe Bourget\u003c\/b\u003e before \u003cb\u003e15,000 people\u003c\/b\u003e.
