NATO RECCE 1950–1965

NATO’s Tactical Reconnaissance Units
Robbie M. Robinson
An illustrated study of NATO’s European units responsible for tactical reconnaissance between 1950 and 1965

Having only just emerged from the Second World War, Western Europe organised itself along what was to become the Iron Curtain and quickly sought to assess the strength of its new adversary. Its air forces were initially supplied with surplus equipment, followed by fighters and bombers specially modified for mapping and identifying enemy assets.
RF-80 Shooting Star, RT-33 Thunderbird, F-84E/G Thunderjet, F2H-2P Banshee, RB-45 Tornado, RB-66 Destroyer, RB-26 Invader, RF-84F Thunderflash, Canberra PR3/7, RF-8A/G Crusader, Mirage IIIR and Étendard IV P formed the Alliance’s photographic spearhead.
This book presents NATO’s tactical reconnaissance units and their aircraft in service between 1950 and 1965, featuring around a hundred previously unpublished colour illustrations by the author. A rare subject, covered in detail for the first time in this format.

In French – 128 pages, 75 illustrations and 52 insignia by the author, 152 colour and black-and-white photographs drawn from official archives and private collections, extracts from technical manuals and details of the reconnaissance equipment fitted to the aircraft – landscape format 235 x 185 mm.
