Consolidated B-24D Liberator, pilot's manuals and carrying case (1942)

This case was part of the kit used by the ferry pilots who ferried the Consolidated B-24 Liberator heavy bomber from the factory to the Army Air Force's operational combat units in North Africa (then Italy) and the Pacific.
This case contains the seven B-24 technical manuals belonging to the ferry pilot: pilot's manual, general technical manual, engines, hydraulics, electricity, weapons and radios.
The case and its manuals date from December 1942. It is engraved with the name of pilot Donald E. Shade. As shown in the photo, a seam on the top left-hand edge has come loose. The clasps on the handles and flap still work.
The manuals are in immaculate condition. They contain numerous diagrams in black and white and in colour, as well as a few photos. In total, almost 1600 pages on excellent quality paper (150g).
